#MY HOKKAIDO Soft serve ice cream connoisseur Ms. Takeshima’s recommendations

2019.03.30

  • Fuko Takeshima

“Can you tell us about your favorite spots in your town and some local souvenirs?”
We believe that locals know best about the latest attractions in their home town. For this article, we conducted a survey of Hokkaido residents. They suggested places for us to visit and what souvenirs to take home, as well as telling us about their personal hobbies and points of view.

Besides soft serves, she enjoys fashion, Indian curry and Gacchiri Monday (a popular TV show on economics).

Milky soft serves with rich milk flavor Hidden gem at a stylish café, "MIRAI.ST cafe & kitchen" *In mid-June Opening

MIRAI.ST cafe & kitchen

What makes this soft serve so special is that it is made with milk from cows raised by the students and staff of agricultural technical college in Sapporo called Hakko Gakuen.
The white and strong swirled soft serve has a clear fresh milk flavor that unfolds as you savor it. It doesn’t give an impactful impression but the perfect richness and refreshing aftertaste definitely put this soft serve at the top among the classics. With the help of the rustic atmosphere of the farm stand, the luscious flavor lingers pleasantly on the palate.
Whether you are hungry or not, I highly recommend ordering the large size because it’s so delicious and light!

If you ask me my favorite ice cream, I choose this one. "Hokkaido hakone farm"

Hakone farm locates in Chitose city, where New Chitose Airport is.
This soft serve is made from fresh milk and taste very light and clean.
Even if you are not a huge fan of milk, you will enjoy this gentle and soft flavor.
I like the ice cream with light flavor like this, so this goes to the center of my strike zone.
The waffle cone is lighter than the average, which brings a perfect balance of soft serve and the waffle.
I would love to eat this soft serve instead of a cup of milk at breakfast.

The taste is too sophisticated to understand at one time. "Gyokusuien Head office"

Gyokusuien is a tea stand in Sapporo.
Their soft serve is on another level from those of in the town.
Once you scoop the pure white soft serve from the milk from Tokachi, Hokkaido, the new faces of “Hokkaido matured Uji matcha” ice cream comes out, then the sweetness of the red beans as unsweet as possible from Hokkaido, and the crispiness from fried brown rice.

First, you’ll get surprised at the delicious milk soft serve. Less sweet and no strange smell that sometimes come from diary products, the milk flavor plays the perfect roll as the supporter of matcha.
It’s needless to say about the wonderful taste of matcha ice cream, which is surely different from the trending bitter taste of matcha ice cream, but it’s gentle and guarantee the taste.

Since the each matcha waffle cone of this salt parfait is hand baked, only a few cone can be made at one time. Please try this parfait which was born from the strong preference of the owner.

MEDO

Last but not least, I would like to share a soft serve that cannot be eaten.

This soft serve enamel accessory has been made by hand.
Offering what’s called “Sapporo’s new-wave cloisonné,” MEDO makes homemade enamel accessories which are sold mainly in Sapporo.
The soft serve design naturally caught my eye and the texture is so incredibly cool that I bought two without hesitation.
There are a variety of other designs and the fact that, even with the same design, no piece is alike makes it even more appealing.
